Announcement: KarateDatu Internal White Belt Sub-rank Grading

ANNOUNCEMENT: We'll be introducing Internal White Belt Sub-rank Grading. This sub-rank belts are not part of M.A.S.K. belt ranking. It is developed by KarateDatu for internal use only as a preliminary assessment before the formal M.A.S.K. grading.

Below is the *summary* grading syllabus:

  1. White Plain : Chudan Jodan Gedan-zuki, Chudan Mae-geri, board breaking for Chudan-zuki and Mae-geri
  2. White-Yellow : four (4) blocks, Jodan Mae-geri, Board breaking for Jodan Mae-geri
  3. White-Green : Stances, moving on stances, hantai-mawate
  4. White-Blue : Kata and all Kihon for MASK Grading to yellow belt

This splits the fundamental physical and technical progress expected of white belts into stages:

  • making development more achievable
  • avoids individual development gaps
  • allows us to recognise accomplishments
  • helps instructors track progress

The grading syllabus per sub-rank will be very brief. Since currently we have only abour 1-5 new students at time, we expect the grading to take only 5-10 minutes, and can carry it out during classes. This also gives the opportunity for senior students to give envouraging support to new members for their very first accomplishments especially on the exciting board breaking session.

For the first batch, we would also like the current Yellow Belts to take part alongside the white belts, not be graded, but for the following reasons:

  • opportunity to take part in the board breaking
  • stand in as an examplry role model to the white belts
  • allow instructors to determine if there are any development gaps that needs to be addressed

Attached are the full details that includes:

  • Target (time) to grading
  • Preliminary Exercise & Knowledge
  • Rigorous Practice
  • Glossary

Announcement - Recognition & Awards

Particularly for KarateTTDI, now that we have a significant break from tournaments:

  1. 🥋Classes will return to Kata-Kihon Week and Kumite Week format. All students will be involved in Kata & Kihon on Kata-Kihon Weeks, and all students will be involved in Kumite on Kumite Weeks.
  2. 🏐We will bring back *games *at the end of classes.

Recognition & Awards:

  1. 🏅‘Student of the Month’ award - Previously on rare occasions, we gave prizes to the winner of games. Instead of prices for games, we will instead give prizes to whom we award as "Student of the Month". Every month the sensei will discuss on who will be awarded as Student of the Month based on attitude, effort focus, consistency, discipline and improvements. Those awarded will be announced, given a prize, photo taken, and posted on our social media.
  2. 👏🏼‘Session Recognition’ - if any of the sensei notice that any one ore more students exceptionally stands out and presents the same attributes as judged for the 'Student of the Month' award, we will make that announcement at the end of the session as a recognition. More than one student can be recognised per class. Though prize is not given for this recognition, it will help us track who is in the running for the 'Student of the Month' award.
