Alternating Kata & Kumite Class/Training Format - Kata Assessment, Bogu Randori & Kumite

Since November 2021 for SMKKD10 dojo, I've implemented weekly alternating 'Kata Class/Training' and 'Kumite Class/Training'.

For 'Kata Classes':
We run through a bit of Kihon, then teach the students to assess each other using the 'Kata Assessment sheet' available in my website (https://karatezad.blogspot.com/p/karatezad-guide.html?m=1#Kata%20Assessment).

For 'Kumite Classes':
We run through Kumite basics according to my set techniques per belts (https://karatezad.blogspot.com/p/karatezad-guide.html?m=1#Kumite%20Waza), a bit of technical principles and/or tactical tips, then for where it is compulsory for 6th kyu (blue belts) to engage into 2 types of sparring.

  1. 'Bogu Randori' (English: armoured free-style practice / armoured uninterrupted sparring) - includes head and body protective equipment, strikes are full-contact and above belts only, no points are awarded, no Yame for points, Yame only when things gets dangerous. This develop resilience for both tournaments and closer to real life situations.
  2. 'Kumite' following WKF rules. This is to simulate and to prepare for Karate Championships in the Kumite Category.
The sparring videos below is a combination of 'Bogu Randori and 'Kumite'. The students here have not been exposed to Karate Championships apart from one tournament, and

only started sparring in classes recently.

The videos of the tiny two yellow belts are 7 years old Datu Faris and 9 years old Kaisara. They're already getting some moves into it!
