Early-to-Mid 2025 Championships

Selangor (Inter-)District Karate Championship, 20 April 2025

🏅 Gold medal ×1: Alexz (Boys Kata 10-11yo)

🥈 Silver medals ×2:
  • Ella Anne Christopher (Girls Kata 9-11yo)
  • Ihsaan Bin Ahmad Affiq (Boys Kata 8-9yo)
🥉 Bronze mdeals ×3:
  • Adelia Amani Binti Aiman (Girls Kata U-14, Girls Kumite 12-14yo)
  • Muhammad Basheer Mohamad Danial (Boys Kata 8-9yo)

Great job to those who manage to bring back some medals, as well as those who didn't. Good try Tasneem who fought a tough match, but unfortunately did not bring back a medal.
Unfortunately two of are team members was caught with food poisoning. Ihsaan manage to secure a Silver medal, whereas Faris had to be brought to the hospital and had to forfeit his match.


Our first participation in 43rd MAKAF National Senior + U14, Cadet & Junior Karate Championship, 13-18 May 2025

For the first time MAKAF (Malaysian Karate Federation) included U-14 (Under 14 years old category, Age 12-13) in the National Championships held in Sensei Nik and Sensei Zad's hometown, Penampang, Sabah.

And this is just in time for our oldest actively competing student, Adelia Amani Binti Aiman, to be of age for this category.

This was not only her very first MAKAF championship, but also her first championship without her Senseis. She did her best competing under M.A.S.K. (Malaysian Association of Shito-ryu Karate-do). No success this time, though a brand new experience for Adelia.



24th International (Club) Milo Open Karate Championship, 19-20 June 2025

This time around we had some missed opportunities in Kata events, the discipline where our dōjo normally produced medals in tournaments, only producing one 🥉Bronze medal, but with great news in Kumite, we managed to land a Finalist grabbing a 🥈Silver and one more 🥉Bronze medal. KarateDatu competed under and represented M.A.S.K. (Malaysian Association of Shito-ryu Karate-do).

🥈 Silver medal ×1: Datu Faris Daniel (Boys Kumite 10-11yo ≤30kg)

🥉 Silver medals ×2:
  • Tasneem (Girls Kumite 10-11yo ≤30kg)
  • Naeema (Girls Kata 6-7yo)

Other competitors: Muhammad Basheer (Boys Kata 8-9yo), Ihsaan (Boys Kata 8-9yo), Ella (Girls Kata 8-9yo), Alexz Boys Kata 10-11yo), Adelia (Girls Kumite 12-13yo -42kg).

In the previous year's Milo Open, it was Sensei Zad Datu who collected medals for the dōjo competing in Veteran (above 35yo) Kata and Kumite achieving 🏅Gold and 🥈Silver respecitvely (Sensei Zad Datu competes in Veteran Individual Kata & Kumite Category) also representing M.A.S.K. alongside students of KarateDatu and many other Shito-ryu Malaysia dōjo.

End-2024 Championship Participation in reverse

Selangor Shukaido Karate Open Cup 2024, 5-8 Dec 2025

5-8 Dec 2024 , Karate TTDI competed in the Selangor Shukaido Karate Open Cup 2024.

7 participants, 8 events, 4 bronze medals. Not too bad, although could've been better. Good job team!:

9th KL Mayor's Cup Karate Championship, 29 Nov - 1 Dec 2025

29 Nov - 1 Dec 2024, KarateTTDI competed in KL Mayor's Cup KarateChampionship representing M.A.S.K. (Malysian Association of Shito-ryu Karate-do).

2nd Hoshi Ryu Open Karate Championship 2024, 12-13 Oct 2025

12-13 Oct, KarateDatu (@KarateTTDI + SMKKD10) competed in 2nd Hoshi Ryu Open Karate Championship 2024 under the combined team with other Shito-ryu dōjos as M.A.S.K. (Malysian Association of Shito-ryu Karate-do).

KarateDatu dōjos contributed to:

Throwback to active-practitioner casual-competitor days.

This is one of the very few video recording of Jiyu Kumite/自由組み手 (free sparring) training. Back in the days before becoming a Karate instructor and was when I was seriously competing, and training sessions were taken extremely seriously, unfortunately, smartphones weren’t a thing yet.

By this time of this recording, I was in the early years as a Karate instructor and retired from competing seriously on a national level, but still actively trains and casually compete.

Here, we would randomly transition from jigeikō/地稽古 (field/true training; objective is not to win but to practice techniques and tactics) to shiai geikō/試合稽古 (practice match; objective is not to win but like a competition match) and reverse. Though we train seriously, but also joke around amongst long-time peers. Enjoy.
